Christmas Treats for the Patients and Staff
Worthing Hospital is now a very busy place on Christmas Day as well as the rest of the year. So following feedback after our 2023 delivery of presents the whole approach was changed for 2024. The delivery of fruit, cakes, biscuits and chocolates was made by the Trustees on Monday 23rd December to those Wards open on Christmas Day. Additionally the staff were given a bag containing fruit teas, coffee and cake to help them through the day.
We were also pleased to deliver a charitable donation of chocolate oranges to A&E, make special arrangements for the Children’s Wards and continue our usual support to our other Community and Partnership Trusts.

And a huge thank you to all those who supported and helped with the Christmas Gifts. In particular a big thank you to Lisa and the staff at Morrisons in Worthing who supplied the majority of items and to Waitrose who help every year donating mince pies.

New staff reward scheme launched
Hospital reward scheme introduced
The new scheme requested by Tori Cooper is up and running and is supported by the Friends of Worthing Hospital. Staff who go above and beyond can be recognised by Stephen and Tori for their efforts with this reward card. The first one was handed out this week (November 2024). Our staff in the cafe will be very happy to redeem it for a hot drink.

Vending Machine
The hot drinks vending machine is now situated by our shop. The vending machine is available to staff, patients and visitors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by the shop in the North Wing. And no cash – well do not worry it is card operated. We hope everyone can now enjoy the opportunity to have a hot drink anytime for £2.50.

2024 Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting to review the 2023 Annual Report for the League of Friends took place at 6.30 pm on Monday 10 June 2024. The meeting took place at Heene Community Centre.
The Chair and Treasurer presented their reports and there was some discussion on a range of issues impacting upon the Charity. The key one was to review and update our Constitution. This included becoming a CIO under the auspices of the Charity Commission and exploring the option to move to a “Foundation” rather than an “Associate” model of working.

Christmas Day Presents 2024
The League of Friends used to provide individual presents to be handed out by hospital staff to inpatients on Christmas Day.
Over the years this commitment has steadily grown as the number of patients has increased on Christmas Day. The hospital staff are also extremely busy and the complications of ensuring patients received an appropriate gift became more difficult. What had been a pleasure became another task.
So for 2024 this has changed with the focus on providing simple treats for patients and staff which can be managed to support everyone. We hope this has been a successful change and we will review all feedback before planning for 2025. If you have any comments please let us know at: info@friendswh.org.uk
The Garden is Open!

Cafe and Shop News
Ward Trolley. Our ward trolley service is now operational most weekday mornings. It is normally operated by our recently recruited team of cheerful and hard working volunteers. You can pay by cash or card machine.
We are looking at ways of further enhancing this service during 2025. If you have any thoughts please let our volunteers know.
Warm Snacks. We now provide a small range of warm snacks including sausage rolls (including veggie option) and warm breakfast bowls.
Loyalty Card. If you are a regular user of our cafe do not forget to pick up your free hot drinks loyalty card.

Friends Cafe Garden
The winter weather may not encourage everyone outside, but when you do need some fresh air please remember that the Friends Cafe Garden in the North Wing is open daily.
Cafe Opening Hours
We are pleased to confirm that the cafe and shop will return to their fully working hours Monday to Saturday from the 2nd January. We wish to thank you for your support during 2024 and wish you a happy and successful 2025.

New Trolleys in Service
Ward TrolleysAt last the new trolleys are in service. Following a request from the hospital the Friends have been able to fund 12 new emergency trolleys for use around the Wards. Staff say they are a huge help. Nurse "Anonymous" said she found the range of equipment...
